I Married a Pretty Swell Fella

Over the last few weeks, said "fella" has been particularly ambitious, tackling homework and final projects far in advance of due dates. In the midst of this, he made an array of Christmas cookies with hardly any help from me (I procrastinate homework. Horribly). Mint brownies, lemon bars, Buck Eyes (peanut butter balls), and Lady Fingers now lay in wait for me to devour. I would post pictures, but salivating isn't very attractive.
We better give them away soon.

Having accomplished all this, he spent some time outside last night creating this:

There are now 8 snowmen in our frontyard. Here's a closer look:

My personal favorite is Cyclops.
The Kiddo loved the miniature "bowling pins" (they're closer to his size).
The hunter and deer is in honor of Idaho.
Way to go, Dad.
Calvin and Hobbes would be proud.

To the Women

I know this is our blog but I have never really posted anything. So here we go. I really want to thank the women in my world. To always knowing where my keys are, my wallet and my shoes, that list could go on…to having the patience to deal with my son at all hours of the night. Sometimes we do things that we really don’t want to and don’t get much appreciation for it. However, when we do those things it truly shows who we really are. Thanks for being who you really are.

It's a Race! I hope I win . . .

I don't. Just so you know. Objective: get your stack as high as you can.

Meet the cheerio.
Meet my son.
Meet me.Meet my boredom.

The swipe.

The victory dance.
This is hilarious. Again. and Again. and Again.
Ok, I really do get a kick out of it.
(And just so you know, I've gotten more than 5 in a stack.)

Tooth Pic

haha- it's a pun.

This was basically a joke, but we tried. Just for you.

See those two blurry white spots on the bottom? yup. Teeth.

This is how The Kiddo eats. He refuses to face forward.
This was waiting for the Drive In to let us in.

Hope Summer is treating you good too!

The Proof

For those who can't see for themselves.

P.S. Tooth number one has surfaced.

What's up

We're out of school and time is plentiful. This is such a rare thing. I'm lovin it. I actually get to see my husband! And we actually get to play and feel like kids and stuff. So here's some of what we've been doing.

Last week I got to take the Kiddo swimming for the first time ever. My family has a little 3-foot pool in the backyard so that was a treat. (I shoulda got a picture but I didn't.) He didn't seem to totally love it, but he never cried about it either. Meh. I'll take it.

For our family night activity this week we made these paper turtles to decorate the Kiddo's wall. Cheap decorations rock. And I like turtles.

On Tuesday night we got to play frisbee golf at a nearby park with some friends. They also introduced us to a Viking Game called Kubb. We really liked it. In fact, My Babe just bought the wood to make us a set. (You should probably check it out.) Thanks Fowlers.

I also got crafty and finally decided to make a bumper pad for the crib (8 months later...) But after pricing fabric, and being my indecisive self about choosing fabric, I opted for the safer route of buying a pad and embellishing it. Saves time for about the same cost. So all I did was paint the circles on. But it was fun. And I like the look (thanks for the idea, Linz).

We've also been frequent visitors to the Library. I must admit that I was thoroughly disappointed the first time, as I went armed with a list of 15 book options and came away empty handed (our library is kinda dinky). But "holds" pay off and I am now reading:
Good book. Interesting, but good so far. I also fell in love with this one . . .

. . . even if the Kiddo is still kinda young for it. He likes the rhythm.

And that's about it, other than movies and puzzles, DI shopping, rainstorms and the occasional walk. Oh the sweetness.

Yesterday

The Kiddo decided that he could crawl. Forward.

He's been going backwards for awhile now and between sitting up, pushing and rolling he was actually getting around rather well. He just struggled to get his hands and legs coordinated enough to go forward.

Until yesterday. Something musta clicked.

This is happy for me because I no longer have to rescue him from under the coffee table constantly, but difficult cause he's already into everything.

Yesterday musta been special cause he also decided that he could pull himself up on things. The chair, the coffee table, boxes, the sewing machine, Mom and Dad, his crib. Naptime is taking on a whole new dimension.

We're still waiting for that first tooth. But he's growing up so fast anyways. No rush.

Mmm.

Homemade Strawberry Lemonade.

It's hot outside.
You know you want some.

Apparently the key to excellent lemonade-from-scratch is making the sugar into a syrup first.
Boil: 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
When the sugar's dissolved,
Add: 1/2 cup lemon juice
2-3 cups cold water (to taste)
I liked mine a little stronger and My Babe liked his more diluted. Your call!
Finally throw some strawberries in the blender and press "frappe." You can strain them a bit before you add them to the lemonade if you wanna remove the seeds and stuff (helps a little with the presentation, though we didn't strain ours and the seeds didn't bother me).
Cool down and enjoy!

We Did It

The semester is over.

One more down, only three more to go (hopefully).

Admittedly, I procrastinated and felt immensely stressed the last couple days. Lucky for me, My Babe didn't procrastinate and took good care of the kiddo so I could get stuff done.

*my smile was ridiculously plastered after I turned in my portfolio. Woo!

I just can't wait until we're done with school! We're getting into the internship search a little more seriously now and I get so excited. There really is life outside of Rexburg.

And of course, this is always when I get the subtle (or not so subtle) reminder to love the little moments. (Every mother needs to read this blog.)

I love this boy (who gets into things now, as you can see). Every little development fills me up and keeps me going.
It's gonna be nice to have a break and be able to just enjoy him. 7 weeks of nothing. Now that's exciting.

What's in a name?

As I'm sure most of you know, Michael Jackson passed away. Awhile ago. (and the news is still covering it. Kind of insane.)

My hubby is not dead. Just thought I'd clarify. (We've received many messages of mock concern.)

Anyway I guess My Babe is off the hook now. The barrage of jokes is over.

And did you know that, according to http://www.howmanyofme.com/, there are 12,562 people in the United States with the name Michael Jackson. Who knew?

May he rest in peace.

Our Independence

Happy 4th!

I've just discovered I am no longer capable of sleeping in, even when my Kiddo and My Babe are. But could there be a better time to blog?

Last night we went to the lake in a neighboring city where they have a little fair. There was all sorts of things to do like free rock climbing, get a tattoo, watch improv comedy, jump on the balloon jumper thing, etc. We didn't do any of it though. I think we assumed we'd just swim in the lake, but unfortunately the rain made it pretty cold.

So instead we cooked some hot dogs and talked with some friends, which was thoroughly enjoyable.
Eventually it got dark and we eagerly waited for the fireworks to start. (This is us attempting a family picture with no light. Hmm.)
The Kiddo liked the glow sticks, but the fireworks not-so-much. He spent most of the time peeking out from my shoulder at the lights, but burying his head when the "boom" came. He was a real trooper in the cold though.
And with the after-event-traffic we didn't get home until way past everyone's bedtime. So I guess I'll let them sleep a little longer.
